Boxing is a sport that does require a person to be in good physical condition so that the body can with stand great amounts of pain.
If you are just starting out, it is a good idea to ease into a new exercise routine. This will help you to develop a good structure and help your body to adjust to the many physical changes that you will be undergoing.
Let’s get started on a good basic exercise routine that will jump start your week and help to give you the stamina you will need to sustain yourself while in the ring.
Running or Jogging:
At least 3 times a week, it is a good idea to start to jog or run. You do not need to run a great distance when starting off. The first time you run, start off with running about 1/2 a mile. If you are uncomfortable with running outside, find a good gym or if you have a treadmill, hop on and picture yourself running along a beach or something. This will help improve your mood as you begin your new routine. Some people when they run on a tread mill actually will watch a movie that might inspire them. For example the movie “Rocky”.
Sit ups and Push-ups:
Time to tighten and build those stomach muscles, as many boxers known the center of the body is the most popular place for strikes in boxing. You will need to toughen up the stomach muscles so that your body can with stand a number of hits and not end up with injuries. Starting off each day, you should set a goal of at least 20 sit ups. Each week as you progress try and increase this number by 10. If you belong to a gym, you might want to see what machines are available to also help strengthen your stomach muscles.
Push-ups are beneficial in strengthening your upper body. By using your own body weight, the simple push-up helps your body develop more evenly and are quite simple to do. Many find that doing single handed push-ups are fun and a challenge at the same time. These should be done after you have developed a significant amount strength.
Jumping rope is another great way to develop stamina, but it also helps to develop balance as well. Being able to move around with out stumbling and also moving quickly is necessary in boxing. Through maintaining good balance you will be able to defeat your opponent more easily.
It is a good idea long with increasing your exercise routine into your life but also make changes to your diet as well. Eating the right foods and drinking plenty of water are necessary to help maintain a good healthy body while competing. And don’t forget to get plenty of rest.
